Melaka

I’m still doing more research about my ancestors here. I know that William Thomas Lewis worked and lived here for many years. He was thanked for his services, while he was Assistant Resident (and some side jobs), by many people in a newspaper ad of 1838, that I found online in the Singapore National Librairy Archives. They loved him very much, we’re going to miss him and wished him succes in his new job as Assistant Resident of Penang. In his reply he thanks all of them. Later he came back to be Resident Councillor of Malacca and in the end he became Resident Councillor of Penang until he retired and stayed there until he died. He, his wife and daughter are buried there.
